KC 29 Camp Hill 18
In this game at Marlpool Lane KC played well to beat Camp Hill, although did not take full advantage of the superior territorial advantages they had secured.
Camp Hill opened the scoring with a well taken penalty goal. KC came back with a great forward move; when a knock on by Camp Hill prevented a certain score the referee awarded a penalty try to KC. Camp Hill received another penalty and were successful with the long-range kick.
KC received a succession of penalties close to the Camp Hill line without getting over to score. Maybe the forwards should have sent the ball out to involve the pacey backs more often. KC superiority was demonstrated in the fact that most of the remainder of this period was spent in the Camp Hill half .
KC got back on the score sheet when George Lloyd Jones intercepted near the halfway line and cruised through to score an individual try under the posts with Jack O’Hagan converting.
Lack of concentration by KC allowed a Camp Hill centre to score a similar breakaway which came against the run of play, this was converted and brought them back to 14-13 down.
KC were working well in the loose, forwards gaining possession and putting pressure on the Camp Hill line and eventually Jack Barrett got the touch down for a try. KC defence was sound with good tackling from Nathan Ward, Tom Dalton, Hakeem Hussain and Jack Barrett.
The forwards deserved credit for their positive play, man of the match Jake Perks was prominent, Beau Archer was gaining good possession in the line out, whilst Hakeem Hussain was impressive in making significant ground from number 8’
KC were penalised for a high tackle and reduced to 14 men and in this 10-minute period Camp Hill scored a try wide out on the right-hand touch. Their good kicker, who had kicked well, came close with conversion which hit the upright.
KC efforts began to get the points their possession deserved, firstly earning a penalty which was slotted over by Jack O’Hagan. Then close to the end of the game KC won the ball from a set scrum, allowing Jesse Burgess to feed Chris Pinner who in turn gave a short pass to Ryan Tiene who made a 30-metre dash to score taking the result to 29 – 18.
On paper a good result however, KC made hard work of the victory and several points were squandered by not taking advantage of the opportunities available.
