The game needs officials, could that be YOU?

As the new season approaches, I want to put out a call for anyone in the Club who wishes to become a referee to take the leap and get in touch. Rugby needs qualified, committed officials to ensure the safety, integrity and enjoyment of the game is maintained.

Whether you are an active player looking for another way to take part in our sport, have left a playing role in the game or have never played but want to be part of the on field action then taking up the flag or the whistle might be for you.

You have two avenues - you can join the North Midlands Refs Society or alternatively become a club referee and take the whistle for any number of club matches from juniors to Vets when a society referee is not an option.

In either case, you will need to attend the RFU England Rugby Refereeing Award (ERRA) course to attain the minimum level required to referee in England. If you go through the North Mids Society they will reimburse your course fees (£85) after completion of a number of completed refereeing appointments. If you decide you only wish to become a club referee, then the club will reimburse your course fees.

The next course is our area is on the 10th & 24th November at Newman University (you do need to attend both days) and can be booked through the RFU Course Finder.

If you are aged under 18 it is recommended you go through the North Mids Society 'Young Whistlers' programme which offers greater support and development for younger officials.

If you want to know more or need help with booking on to the course, please contact me through the website or on daitheref@yahoo.co.uk
