Team Meets Stiff Opposition at Whitchurch

Kidderminster Carolians continue to find life difficult in Midland One West losing 60-10 to Whitchurch. After last season’s promotion they expected to find the league very competitive, however they did not anticipate losing many experienced players. Some through retirement, several players choosing to play for other clubs, players moving elsewhere for jobs and some others recovering from long term injuries. This has seriously depleted an already small squad.
In this game KC started well and spent the first 20 minutes in the Whitchurch half. In this period the only time that the opposition got out of their own half was when they scored a breakaway unconverted try. KC were playing very well at this point going close with moves through both the backs and forwards. Unfortunately their repeated pressure on the Whitchurch line was only rewarded with a Pinner penalty.
The effort put in by KC in this early period took its toll on the strength and resolve of the players which, not surprisingly, allowed Whitchurch to dominate. Whitchurch then took control with their backs scoring nine tries with five conversions.
KC kept working and deserved their first try through Andy McLellan , coming after another period of sustained pressure on the Whitchurch line. Players must be complimented for staying positive whilst the scoreline against them was climbing. Notable games from Chris Pinner, Scott Lovell, Simon Clarke and Jasper Smith
